Bodegas LAN – Reserva Rioja 2018

Bodegas LAN is a well-established winery located in the Rioja Alta sub-region of Rioja, Spain, a region known for its Tempranillo-based reds. Founded in 1972, the name LAN comes from the initials of the three provinces that make up Rioja: Logroño, Álava and Navarra. The estate farms Tempranillo along with other traditional Rioja grapes like Mazuelo and Graciano, and focuses on producing wines that balance fruit, oak influence and freshness. Their Reserva wines are aged both in American and French oak barrels and then further in bottle before release, resulting in Rioja that blends tradition with approachability.

New label, same Rioja soul 🍷 — I had this bottle recently as a sample, and despite the visual refresh, the wine stays true to its roots. Tempranillo leads the way with ripe black plum and fig, while hints of sweet spice, anise, tobacco, leather and cacao make each sip layered and interesting. The palate feels rich and polished, and the velvety tannins with lively acidity kept everything balanced through food.

I really appreciate the modern look of the bottle — it feels youthful and stylish, and I think it easily connects with younger generations while still honouring the classic Rioja character that many wine lovers respect. This is the kind of bottle that looks great on the table and tastes just as good.

This Reserva pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes thanks to its freshness and structure. Try it alongside roasted meats, grilled sausages, rich stews, aged cheeses or charcuterie — especially when you’re looking to balance savory, fatty or smoky flavours on a cool evening.
