After a full week immersed in the red wines of Montalcino, I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to the region. Back home, this bottle of Altesino Toscana Bianco 2024 was waiting for me (thanks to Authentic Vins & Spiritueux), and curiosity won. The result? A fresh, unexpected side of a Brunello producer — and a very pleasant surprise. 🍋
The wine
Altesino Toscana Bianco 2024 is bright and expressive, with floral notes, ripe stone fruit, and a lively citrus edge. It’s easy-drinking yet well-defined, making it ideal as an aperitivo, but it really shines with food: seafood, grilled fish, or even charcoal-grilled octopus 🐙.
The blend brings together Vermentino, Viognier, and Chardonnay, combining freshness, subtle aromatics, and texture. The grapes are sourced from an Altesino parcel in the northern part of Montalcino, planted on sedimentary clay-sandy soils at 220–250 meters altitude — a terroir that delivers freshness and balance rather than power.
The producer
Founded in the 1970s, Altesino is one of Montalcino’s historic estates and a key name behind the international reputation of Brunello di Montalcino. Known for precision, elegance, and respect for terroir, Altesino was also among the pioneers in highlighting individual vineyard expressions in the area.
This Toscana Bianco shows that the estate’s attention to detail and sense of place translate just as well into white wines — offering a lighter, Mediterranean-inspired expression without losing identity.
