Josetta Saffirio Barbera d’Alba Superiore 2022

Bright, Versatile Barbera for the Season

During the tasting, what immediately stood out was the wine’s vivid acidity and bright cherry-driven profile. The fruit feels energetic and lifted, carried by medium, beautifully integrated tannins that never distract. Everything is about balance, purity, and freshness — exactly what well-made Barbera should deliver.

What makes this wine especially compelling is its remarkable versatility at the table. The lively acidity works seamlessly with tomato-based sauces, enhances fattier or richer dishes, and cuts beautifully through charcuterie boards, grilled white meats, and hearty weekday meals. It’s the kind of bottle that adapts to nearly anything you pair it with.

This is a 100% Barbera, grown on south to south-east–facing slopes at 300–400 meters, where altitude preserves tension and aromatic brightness. The soils — medium-calcareous, mineral-rich, with balanced silt, clay, and sand — give the wine both structure and clarity.

In the cellar, everything is done with precision and respect for the fruit:

  • Hand-picked and fully destemmed grapes

  • Gentle pressing

  • 8–10 days of maceration

  • Controlled-temperature fermentation

  • Malolactic fermentation in wood

All geared toward preserving freshness, purity, and the grape’s natural vibrancy.

If you’re looking for a bottle that can handle a diverse holiday table, or simply something refreshing and reliable for a casual weeknight, this Barbera is a perfect choice — expressive, food-friendly, and instantly enjoyable.

P.S. The producer, Sara Vezza — fifth generation and deeply committed to sustainability — places nature, biodiversity, and environmental protection at the heart of her philosophy. Wines made with this kind of intention always feel worth supporting. 🌱
