Cecchi Chianti 2024: A Vibrant Tuscan Red Made for the Table
Founded in 1893, Cecchi is a historic Tuscan family winery whose story began when Luigi Cecchi became a professional wine taster. Today, the family continues to combine Tuscan tradition with a modern, accessible approach to winemaking from its base in Castellina in Chianti.
Cecchi describes its Chianti as one of the estate’s historic labels and a reflection of its Tuscan roots. The blend is composed of 90% Sangiovese, supported by 10% Canaiolo and Colorino, from vineyards planted at an average altitude of approximately 270 metres. Fermentation and maceration take place over about 15 days, followed by at least two months of refinement in bottle.
This is an extremely versatile wine at the table, but its most natural partner is spaghetti with tomato sauce. The wine’s bright acidity mirrors the acidity of the tomatoes, while its cherry fruit and herbal character complement the simplicity of the sauce without overwhelming it.
What I enjoyed most about the Cecchi Chianti 2024 was its uncomplicated ability to work with food. It does not rely on weight, oak or excessive ripeness to make an impression. Instead, it offers tart red fruit, savoury freshness and enough acidity to bring energy to the table.
With spaghetti and tomato sauce, the pairing felt almost effortless. The wine followed the flavours of the dish rather than competing with them, refreshing the palate after every bite and making the meal feel more complete. It is also the kind of bottle that can move easily from pizza night to a charcuterie board or grilled chicken, which is precisely the appeal of a well-made, youthful Chianti: familiar, lively and genuinely useful at the table.
