Argiano is one of the historic estates of Montalcino, a renowned Tuscan appellation best known for Brunello. The estate dates back to the 16th century and is located in the south-west of the Montalcino zone, where limestone-rich soils contribute to wines with finesse and precision. Argiano blends tradition with careful vineyard and cellar practices, and their Rosso di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese organic grapes, offering a vibrant, food-friendly expression of the variety that reflects its terroir with clarity and restraint.

On the nose, this Rosso di Montalcino shows bright red fruit with gentle herbal nuances that feel fresh and inviting. On the palate, the wine offers lively acidity and firm yet refined tannins, with a savoury character that is balanced and expressive without being heavy. The overall impression is one of vibrancy and freshness, making this Rosso a wonderfully approachable and food-centric Sangiovese.

I enjoyed this Argiano Rosso di Montalcino alongside a rich wild game ragù with pappardelle, and the experience reminded me why Sangiovese is one of Italy’s great gastronomic grapes.
